First I want to say how excited I am to have this opportunity to share more about the coaching business with the dental community! I have mad respect for all my hygiene ladies and I know how hard you all work to create great patient care!! That's also the reason I love to work with hygienists and dental professionals! I'm so excited to mentor you to see that the coaching business can be very similar in how we go about our jobs as dental providers too!
Below you will find the replay from our webinar for RDH's that was on 6/11 along with the PDF that goes in more detail about coaching.
Why I got Started
In 2014 I was 7 years into my professional career as a dental hygienist. At that point I was starting to feel burnt out in my day to day. In 2012 when my daughter was born I cut my hours from 5-6 days a week to 4 days a week. It was a huge blessing to be home with her that extra day, but it created a very tight budget to do much else besides paying the bills. When I thought about growing our family I feared having to add that day back to my schedule due to finances. I didn't want to leave my professional career as an RDH, but really just wanted to keep my same schedule or even possibly cut another day in the future! I got into this profession so I could be both a present mother, but also a working women!! I honestly just wanted to best of both worlds!
This lead my husband and I into a conversation one night that had us brainstorming what else I could do on the side to create a supplement income and not add on additional hygiene hours. I also knew whatever that "side hustle" was going to be had to be something that would ignite that flame in me again!! I have always loved health and wellness, especially fitness! So we thought about being a fitness instructor, personal trainer, or even going back to school to do something in nutrition. However, all those things were going to take time away from my family, and was not going to work well with my already full-time career.
I then seen a hygiene colleague of mine that worked for the same fast pace dental practice sharing about this "coaching thing." She shared she was using the extra money it gave her to pay off debts and bills. She also shared the travel opportunities that came along with it too! After watching her for 6 months I finally reached out and after a long conversation I signed up to be a coach!
I have mentored many women over the last several years to run their own online business. However, my dental ladies have a connection with me that goes past our love for health and fitness, but to the core of our first professional career as dental providers.
One of the reasons that most of us choose hygiene as a profession is the flexibility it would one day give us as moms. However, most of us didn't realize with flexibility and cutting back on hours came tighter budgets. That's why most of us put a plan in place that would help supplement that time off and give us fulfillment in multiple areas! One area was surrounding ourselves with other women that had the same goals, ambitions, and excitement for life!
It's been exciting to live out my journey going from full-time RDH, to part-time RDH, and then to resigned RDH turned online entrepreneur. However, what's really exciting is watching these ladies build a future for their families! It has also became a lot of fun for me to teach the business by using examples from the dental office or analogies that allow me to relate coaching and dental hygiene together!!
